Blood Cancer
Leukemia is a type of blood cancer that occurs when abnormal white blood cells in the bone marrow grow rapidly. The condition is associated with white blood cells, which are an important part of the immune system that fights infection. Leukaemia occurs when an abnormal condition causes the bone marrow to produce immature white blood cells (leukaemia cells) that outnumber and crowd out healthy cells. Leukemia can be acute (rapid deterioration) or chronic (slow deterioration).
